iiGames shutting down, all hail 3FL

Posted by wob on 19-08-2008 14:48:00

      Hi iiGamers,

With the recent acquisition of Westnet we've now got two competing gaming sites, seems a bit silly really :) After many meetings with the 3FL guys, we've decided to all join forces under the 3FL brand and we have a lot planned for it. So - in the near future we're going to start turning off iiGames.

We don't have exact dates on when everything is going to turn off just yet, but rest assured, we're making sure we keep the good bits of iiGames so no-ones left out in the cold without their favourite BF or TF servers!

To this end, we've just shipped some brand new, seriously powerful boxes to 3FL and they're going to put up some identical TF2 servers, exactly like the 4 current iiNet servers, for everyone to play on (if anything, they'll be even better). More hardware is due for Sydney aswell, and we'll be moving the iiNet BF1942 server over onto that once it's online (might even be able to goto 64 players)

For now, these are the games I've earmarked to be moved 'as is' over to 3FL. If anyone really wants to keep certain iiNet servers please jump in the forums and use this thread to make your case and it will be considered. Oh and 3FL have already put up some CS1.6 servers for the people who just can't let it go.

The last stage of all this will be shutting down iiNet games and moving everyone over the 3FL forum. Tank is working on merging the user bases now, so please _don't_ go and register again there as we can copy your account (including postcount) onto their forums.

Thanks to everyone who's been a part of iiNet Games over the years, either as an admin or a gamer or just a forum spammer :) It's been a lot fun and I'll see you all over at 3FL.

Posted by wob on 06-02-2007 11:16:00

      GO3 Electronic Entertainment Expo

This year's premier electronic entertainment expo, GO3 is to be held in Perth, Western Australia, from March 30 to April 1st. The event brings together some of the brightest minds in the electronic entertainment industry and will feature a hands on consumer expo plus a 2 day industry conference with a cast of international speakers including Rod Fergusson, the producer of last year's Xbox360 game of the year "Gears of War" and Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid series.

But it gets better. GO3 also delivers one of the most exciting LAN events Australia has ever seen. Co-ordinated by WALAN and supported by iiNet, the GO3 LAN Gaming Arena will feature 750 players competing in non-stop gaming competitions at the Perth Convention Centre for over 30 hours straight. Competitions will include: Counter Strike 1.6 and Source; Quake 3 & 4; Unreal Tournament; and many more!

Spectators will be able to watch the action up close or on the big screens and entry into the LAN Arena includes free entry to the consumer expo with exhibitors such as Nvidia, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and the Electronic Sports World Cup. Also provided is a dedicated gamer's lounge and gamer's cafe open throughout the event and some extra special treatment for iiNet gamers.

Tickets are available NOW through BOCS Ticketing and are sure to disappear quickly. Also check out the GO3 website for more info on the Early Bird Conference Special.

      Battlefield 2142 Demo

Posted by wob on 09-10-2006 09:52:00

Just a quick update, as the BF2142 demo was released over the weekend. If you're looking for a free quota link use our direct Gamershell mirror for the file:
      http://iigh.iinet.net.au/demo/battlefield2142_demo.zip

or if you're outside the iiNet network:

      http://www.gamershell.com/download_15855.shtml

We're looking at getting some demo servers up, but unfortunately EA/DICE are yet to release a dedicated linux server. They have for all the previous Battlefield series so heres hoping it's not too long away.

      iiGames Update - New servers

Posted by wob on 18-08-2006 09:54:00

With the release of Fear Combat today (it's free!) we've put up two Fear multiplayer servers, and just to show you we weren't kidding about the east coast servers, one of them is in sydney.

      The servers are at:
      fear1-per.games.iinet.net.au (Perth)
      fear1-syd.games.iinet.net.au (Sydney)

You can download the client from the iiNet FTP server at:

      http://ftp.iinet.net.au/games/fear/

You'll also need to go http://www.joinfear.com/ and signup for a free CD key to play.

Depending on popularity we may put up more servers, and feel free to jump in on the discussion thread and suggest game modes and different server options:

      http://games.ii.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=4881

We also have the first of the ihug crossover servers up and running, iiNet BF1942 at 203.14.173.131. The old ihug BF1942 server will be shutting down at the end of the month so start moving over!

iHug Games becomes iiNet Games Sydney

Posted by wob on 18-04-2006 09:33:00

Exciting news from the world of iiGames.

iHug Games in Sydney is becoming the second chapter of iiNet games. For the most part we will continue running the same games that iHug runs at the moment, but on newer hardware. We're also adding a new content / mirror server for Sydney. This should offer improved speeds for FreeZone content for everyone on the east coast, as the new network will be a brand new FreeZone for iiNet customers.

So far the iHug games forums have been closed to new subscriptions and we're suggesting they all come over here and register. On April 30th the iHug forums will be shutdown completely.

Between then and now the new content network in Sydney will come online (tonight hopefully) and we'll start bringing up some new game servers. The old iHug servers will continue to run in tandem until the iiNet servers are operational and tested, at which point they will be shutdown and the DNS records pointed at the new servers.

Also everyone please welcome Meni (Dennis), the iHug Games admin to the ranks of iiNet Games Administrators. He's come on board to help out with iiGames in general and to watch over the Sydney side of things :)

p.s. any iHug'ers making the move over to our forums, please make yourselves familiar with our forum rules as I believe they're a bit stricter than the iHug forums.
